Chit chat about this and that.

Chit chat about this and that.

Not that it means a lot, but…there are reports that perennial also-ran Darryl Gorham has dropped out of the National City mayor’s race and endorsed  incumbent Ron Morrison over rival candidate Alejandra Sotelo-Solis.

If So-So is worried about the snub, she’s not showing it.

“Mr. Gorham likes to run for office but he rarely gets much support,” said Sotelo-Solis, who brought up that he has run about 10 times for office never getting much more than a few hundred votes.

Ouch!

But then again, in a less than scientific The Star-News poll, 246 voters suggested they prefer RoMo. Sotelo-Solis garnered only 86 in favor.

Maybe every single vote does count.

HALLOWEEN: EVERYONE’S FAVORITE SLASHER

No one said making cuts was easy, even if you’re dressed like Freddy Krueger. Chula Vista City Manager Jim Sandoval has spent the last couple years slashing the city’s bloated budget, cutting services and employees in the process. The bloodletting  is expected to last into next year.

HALLOWEEN: THE DOLL OF CITY HALL

Given that she was recently voted the South County’s Best Elected Official—for the second year in a row—Cheryl Cox as a Cabbage Patch kid is a gimme. The popular dolls were sold in the millions long before that little red headed  freak Elmo made the scene.

HALLOWEEN: YOUNG AND BRASH

so-so

National City mayoral candidate Alejandra Sotelo-Solis has been criticized as being too young to take the reins of  the city. But, dressed as Jersey Shore’s Snooki, maybe “Sooki” Solis can convince voters that her youth and audacity are only a couple of the assets she brings to the political arena.

No on Prop. H leader Ed Herrera as Frankenstein? Why not? If the measure doesn’t pass and local recreation centers and libraries are shut down, the villagers may want to tear him limb from limb. Especially the ones who get laid off.

HALLOWEEN: SCOUT’S HONOR

I'm preparedThe implication is not that outgoing Chula Vista City Councilman John McCann is a cartoonish figure. The implication is that as the darling of local Republicans, McCann is as trustworthy as a squeaky clean boy scout. So why not dress the part?

FORUM-3

Pastor Brian Hendry (left) and former San Diego councilman/state assemblyman/insurance industry executive Juan Vargas squared off  in a candidate’s forum recently.

Both men are hoping to represent Senate District 40. Both men are also FOGs (Friends of God).

Hendry is a local pastor who reportedly would like to replace all sitting judges with Christian conservatives . Vargas studied to become a Jesuit priest but eventually left the seminary to focus on more earthly pursuits, like procreation and politicking.

Sorry, Cheech and Chong. During the forum both holy rollers said they were opposed to Prop. 19, the push to legalize marijuana in California. But there’s hope for Adam and Steve as both men hadven’t publicly stated where they are on same-sex marriage.

He is my brother

San Diego City Council president Ben Hueso (right) was on hand to cheer for his brother Felipe at a candidates’ forum in Nestor. Felipe is running against David Alvarez for the District 8 seat.

In addition to his moral support, Ben also funneled Felipe $25,000 in his bid to take over where Ben is leaving. But boys being boys, Ben’s taking the money back.  Turns out he got caught making an illegal contribution.

Derrick Roach

Private investigator and 79th Assembly District candidate Derrick Roach was anything but clueless when he squared off against opponent Ben Hueso at a Nestor candidiates’ forum.

But the detective came up short when it came to levelling charges of corruption against former Chula Vista City Councilman Mitch Thompson. The state Fair Political Practices Commission and the city’s Ethics Commission found that Thompson (inset) didn’t do nothing, see?

Thompson has referred to Roach as a “Republican-hit man thug- punk.” Looks like the P.I. is going to have to track down another voter come Nov. 2.

VARGASState Senate candidate Juan Vargas dropped in on the staff of the Southwestern Sun Tuesday just to say hello and I got your back.

The former California assemblyman and darling of the insurance industry recently made a modest donation to the college newspaper.

Man, you just can’t buy that kind of goodwill and publicity. (Well you can, sort of,  if you donate $3,200 out of your senate campaign fund to help the Sun cover its printing costs after college administrators threaten to not pay the newspaper’s printer.)

Vargas’ opponent, Republican Brian Hendry, said he would consider making a donation to the newspaper as well, But, he admitted, his coin purse holds far less than the $626,000 Vargas has raised this year.

Maybe Hendry should consider buying a subscription.
